Today I am going to review Colorbar Perfect Match Beauty Balm and alongside demonstrate the tutorial on How to Choose The Perfect Foundation with two shades which are Vanilla Crème and White Light. I have tested almost all the BB creams available in the market. Among them I like this one most. Colorbar says its paraben free and Contains SPF20 with UVA/UVB filters for broad spectrum sun protection. Its available in 4 shades to match a wide range of skin tones.
Price: Rs. 550/- (Available online on Amazon)
The BB cream comes in a sleek tan plastic tube with a silver screw cap. The overall packaging is very travel friendly but I’d have liked it more if the tube were thinner. The consistency of the cream is quite thin. I have observed that it is kind of soaked up very quickly by cleaned skin. So I need to be real quick to blend it before it gets dried and patchy. According to my experience the cream glides smoothly on moisturized skin or on primer rather than dry and just cleaned skin.
The coverage is very sheer and looks very natural almost like a second skin. It does not cover acne marks and skin blemishes and you definitely need to apply concealer if you have any. This BB cream does not make my oily skin completely matte but gives a dewy and satiny feeling to it which looks lovely and healthy. In spite of containing SPF it does not give an ashy effect in pictures and looks great even under flash. The cream contains a lovely floral scent which was the first thing I liked about it. The smell may irritate those who have sensitive nose and for them I want to mention that the smell stays on me for more than an hour.
The staying power of the cream is really good. In summer also its satiny effects stays on my extremely oily skin for almost 5+ hours but with in between compact touch ups. There is one strange thing happens to me just after applying the cream; my face starts sweating like crazy and continues for 1-2 minutes. After this it carries on being problem free throughout the day. The possible reason may be the aloevera and moisturizer content of the cream.
Now let’s come to the shade selection and demonstration of “How to choose the perfect foundation”. Although the company says this is a perfect match BB cream but unfortunately there is no match (perfect!!!) for my complexion. I am NC 35 (as per my last visit to MAC) and have golden yellow undertone with slight pigmentation around my mouth and nose.
As I have mentioned in the tutorial you can see white light looks ashy on me in sunlight because of its strong pink undertone. It is too contrasting with my neck and seems to change my whole complexion. So it’s a big NO-NO for me.
The shade Vanilla Crème has strong yellow undertone but is dark and too yellow compared to my skin tone so it looks rather muddy on me.
So to get the lighter yellow shade which is close to my neckline I had to take different proportions of the two shades and swipe on my jaw (as shown here). After few failed attempts finally I zeroed on one which in person looks slightly different but seems perfect in picture. I do not complain about the difference as the whole makeup looks very natural with a faint rosy glow on my face.
So here you can see how you can make the perfect shade of foundation for you from two very different shades. Initially you have to invest in two but it will obviously last longer and you can tweak the shade according to your changing complexion due to tanning and other health issues. I find this technique very useful and try to keep two or more shades handy to get the perfect match at any situation.
