Today I am reviewing one of the most budget friendly liquid foundation available in India and may be the oldest one too; the Lakme Perfecting Liquid Foundation. The shade that suite my medium (MAC NC35) yellow toned skin is Natural Marble. It was the very first foundation I have ever used in some marriage function when I was just out of school and I still remember how ridiculous I was looking in the photos because of the wrong shade!!!! Back in those days there was not much options to select from and from light skin to very dark complexion every lady used to apply the same shade!!! Obviously the result was disastrous. Till date I was avoiding this foundation because of the horrifying memory associated with it but when I saw some other beauty bloggers and many customers appreciating it I bought the foundation out of curiosity. When I used the foundation for the first time almost after a decade I’s all smile and memories.
Price: Rs. 140/- (available on Amazon)
The Lakme Perfecting Liquid Foundation comes in the very old, almost vintage rectangular glass bottle with deep maroon screw cap. The bottle is sturdy but bulky and heavy and not at all suitable for travel. The mouth of the bottle is huge. So if you are not giving enough attention you may pour way more foundation than you require. I don’t know why Lakme has kept the appearance of this foundation intact!!! May be to retain the nostalgia alive!!!
The formula of Lakme Perfecting Liquid Foundation is runny and watery. Due to this the foundation spreads on the skin smoothly and sink in the skin without leaving patches. The texture of the foundation seems completely oil free upon touching so your fingers won’t glide on the skin like other liquid foundations containing silicone or moisturizer. After blending the foundation settles into a matte finishing which is just fine for oily skin. But girls with dry or extremely dry skin will need to apply moisturizer before applying the foundation to prevent developing rough patches and also for smoother spreading.
There are four shade available which are supposed to cover a wide range of Indian complexion. The shade marble which I am using will suite light to medium complexion with yellow undertone. There are no shade available which will suite very dark or dark complexion. In spite of being an Indian cosmetic company I don’t know why Lakme overlooks the brown complexions where foreign brands like L’Oreal has better shade selection for deep complexions.
Lakme Perfecting Foundation gives a lovely matte glow if the shade matches perfectly to the complexion (see how to choose perfect foundation). It makes the skin looks smoother due to the presence of silicones. The foundation does not feel cakey and does not look ashy under camera flash.
The coverage of this liquid foundation is sheer. It will not cover acne marks, blemishes or dark circles. It will just provide an evenness to slightly discolored skin. The perfecting liquid foundation is a good daily wear foundation if your workplace is temperature controlled and not humid.
The staying power is not good. The foundation comes out the moment the face start sweating in hotter temperature. It does not control oil secretion either. In temperature controlled environment my face becomes oily 2.5 to 3 hours after applying the foundation.
Pros of Lakme Perfecting Liquid Foundation:
- Lakme Perfecting Liquid Foundation is a sheer coverage foundation suitable for daily wear.
- It is having an oil free, water like formula which will be perfect for oily skin ladies.
- The liquid foundation gives a matte powdery finish after blending.
- It sinks in the skin within seconds without leaving patches.
- It gives a lovely matte glow and freshness to the skin and make the skin smoother.
- The foundation makes the complexion even if not heavily pigmented.
- It is extremely cheap considering the quality and quantity.
Cons of Lakme Perfecting Liquid Foundation:
- The staying power is not good.
- The foundation is oil free but cannot prevent oil secretion.
- It is not waterproof and sweat proof.
Lakme Perfecting Liquid Foundation is a wonderful foundation if you are blessed with a good blemish free skin. It gives an instant freshness, matte powdery finishing and smoother looking skin within minutes just for 150 bucks. Only problem is very low staying power. So I’ll suggest you to wear it indoor only and keep a mattifying face powder handy always. This foundation will be too good to fake a “no makeup look” in budget.
The Perfecting Liquid Foundation has the same coverage like the Lakme Invisible finish foundation (review) but the later one has higher staying power. Lakme Absolute Skin Natural Mousse (review) has much higher coverage than the Perfecting Liquid Foundation and makes skin smoother and controls oil even in hot and humid weather and outdoor for almost 5 hours. None of these Lakme foundation melts or oxidize on skin and retain the freshness until the end. All of them are best suited to oily skin and gives powdery matte finishing.
What do you think about the Lakme Perfecting Liquid Foundation? Is it the best budget makeup foundation available right now? Do share your opinion if you think there are better cheap foundations with all these qualities.
